Eye on safety

  • During summer, roads are busier and drivers are more distracted than usual. So watch out for drivers who are watching other things and not out for you
  • Sun is out in full force increasing sun glare coming off the road – invest in a good pair of polarized sunglasses
  • Construction - Know where the work zones are and plan accordingly. Approach cautiously and be on the lookout for workers and equipment. Beware of “choke points” and expect narrow lane widths. Maintain a safe following distance

Pay attention to weather forecasts

  • Weather patterns could include thunderstorms, downpours that result in flash flooding, tornados and more. These often can happen with little to no warning, so make sure you know the forecast each day

Cyclists are out

  • Allow 3 feet of clearance when passing
  • Check your blind spots multiple times
  • Be aware when opening car doors, making turns, and changing lanes

Pedestrian movement

  • Check twice before making turns
  • Be especially alert in congested areas
  • Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks
  • Never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk – they could be waiting for pedestrians to pass
